The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department specializes in the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of a wide range of conditions affecting the mouth, jaw, face, and neck. This department combines dental, medical, and surgical expertise to address complex issues that go beyond the scope of general dentistry.
Diagnostic Services
- Comprehensive Oral Examination: Evaluation of the teeth, gums, and oral tissues to diagnose conditions such as impacted teeth, oral cancers, cysts, and tumors.
- Imaging and Radiography: Use of advanced imaging techniques, including panoramic X-rays, CT scans, and MRI, to assess the structure of the jaw, teeth, and facial bones. These tools are essential for planning surgical procedures and diagnosing fractures, deformities, and other abnormalities.
- Oral Pathology Consultation: Analysis of biopsies and other diagnostic tests to detect and manage oral diseases, including benign and malignant lesions.
Surgical Services
- Wisdom Teeth Removal: Surgical extraction of impacted or problematic wisdom teeth to prevent pain, infection, and alignment issues.
- Dental Implants: Placement of titanium posts into the jawbone to support artificial teeth, restoring function and aesthetics. This may include bone grafting procedures to ensure sufficient bone density for implant placement.
- Orthognathic Surgery: Corrective jaw surgery to address skeletal discrepancies, malocclusion (misaligned bite), and facial deformities. This surgery improves both function (such as chewing and speaking) and appearance.
- Cleft Lip and Palate Repair: Surgical correction of congenital defects such as cleft lip and cleft palate, which can affect a child’s ability to eat, speak, and breathe properly. This often involves a series of surgeries over time, combined with orthodontic and speech therapy.
- Facial Trauma Surgery: Treatment of facial fractures, lacerations, and soft tissue injuries resulting from accidents or violence. This includes the reconstruction of the jaw, cheekbones, nose, and other facial structures to restore function and appearance.
- TMJ Surgery: Surgical intervention for Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders, including arthroscopy and open joint surgery, to relieve pain, restore function, and improve jaw movement.
- Oral Cancer Surgery: Removal of malignant tumors in the mouth, jaw, and surrounding tissues, often followed by reconstructive surgery to restore function and appearance. This may involve collaboration with oncologists and other specialists for comprehensive cancer care.
- Reconstructive Surgery: Rebuilding facial structures following trauma, surgery, or congenital deformities using grafts, implants, or other reconstructive techniques. This includes microvascular free tissue transfer and flap surgeries.
- Salivary Gland Surgery: Removal of benign or malignant tumors in the salivary glands, as well as treatment for obstructed or infected salivary ducts.
